At Cityden Aparthotels, hospitality goes beyond offering a comfortable stay. It’s about creating meaningful experiences for guests while taking responsibility for the world around us. That’s why we’re proud to introduce a new initiative at Lucia’s Restaurant & Bar: a collaboration with the Made Blue Foundation.
Lucia’s Restaurant & Bar, located at all Cityden Aparthotel locations, is a place where guests and locals come together for relaxed dining, Mediterranean flavours, and good company.
From now on, every bottle of water served at Lucia’s helps provide clean drinking water for communities around the world.
It’s simple. It’s impactful. And it means that every guest becomes part of something bigger.
What Is the Made Blue Foundation?
The Made Blue Foundation is a non-profit organisation dedicated to one clear mission: ensuring that everyone in the world has access to safe drinking water.
Despite global progress, millions of people still lack access to clean water. This affects health, education, and economic opportunities in many regions.
Made Blue works with companies and organisations to fund sustainable water projects in countries where access to clean water is limited. These projects include:
- Building water points and wells
- Developing small-scale water networks
- Improving sanitation and hygiene education
- Supporting long-term local water management
By partnering with Made Blue, businesses can contribute directly to solutions that have a measurable impact.
At Cityden, we believe hospitality should also mean responsibility. This partnership is one step in that direction.
How Your Bottle of Water Makes an Impact
The concept is beautifully simple.
For every bottle of water sold at Lucia’s Restaurant, Cityden donates to Made Blue. The donation equals a specific amount of clean drinking water for communities in need.
Here’s how it works:
- Large bottle: provides 700 litres of clean drinking water
- Small bottle: provides 350 litres of clean drinking water
That means one bottle on your table can help someone access safe drinking water for months.
A small moment at dinner. A big difference elsewhere.
Scan, Choose, and Support a Water Project
Each bottle of water at Lucia’s features a QR code. When you scan it, you can learn more about Made Blue and actively choose which project your contribution supports.
Guests can select one of several water initiatives around the world. If no selection is made, the donation will be divided equally among the projects.
This approach allows guests to feel more connected to the impact they are making.
Instead of a passive donation, it becomes a shared choice.
The Projects You Can Support
Bangladesh – Mini Water Networks
In Bangladesh, many communities struggle with access to safe drinking water due to contamination and limited infrastructure.
Through Made Blue, mini-water networks are being built to provide reliable clean water access to 33,670 people.
These small-scale systems deliver safe water directly to villages, reducing reliance on unsafe sources and long travel times.
Malawi – Water Points for Millions
Malawi faces severe water access challenges, especially in rural areas.
Made Blue supports the construction and maintenance of water points that provide clean drinking water to approximately 7 million people.
These water points provide stable, safe access to water for entire communities.
Uganda – Wash & Learn Program
In Uganda, Made Blue supports the Wash & Learn initiative, a program focused on sustainability, education, and local entrepreneurship.
The program emphasises:
- Hygiene education in schools
- Empowerment of girls and women
- Training local entrepreneurs to maintain water systems
By focusing on knowledge and community leadership, these projects create long-term impact.
Sierra Leone – Water Kiosks and School Nutrition
In Sierra Leone, the initiative combines clean water access with improved nutrition.
The project includes:
- Seven water kiosks provide safe drinking water
- Distribution of milk powder for school meals
Together, these efforts support approximately 55,000 people, improving both health and access to education.
Why Sustainable Hospitality Matters
At Cityden, sustainability is not just a buzzword. It’s part of how we operate.
Hospitality businesses have a unique opportunity to make a difference. With thousands of guests visiting every year, small everyday choices can create a large collective impact.
Initiatives like this allow guests to contribute effortlessly while enjoying their stay.
Ordering water at dinner suddenly becomes more meaningful.
This approach also reflects Cityden’s broader commitment to responsible hospitality: from reducing waste to working with sustainable partners.
