This week my colleague and I visited our new location again: Cityden Oud-Zuid. We were let in together with our new Head of Technical Services. On the ground floor there wasn’t much new to see for us yet. We did get to sneak a peek at the small courtyard garden at the back of our restaurant. Unfortunately we won’t be able to use this with the restaurant, but it’s nice to see nonetheless.

Via the staircase at the back of the building, we climb the floors again, eventually ending up on the fourth floor. A new construction team has joined to repair and make the building’s roof more sustainable. So for our construction team, it’s now a matter of waiting for that.

The site supervisor then takes us floor by floor back down. This is the first time our new Head of TD has come along, so a lot of what’s being explained is already familiar to my colleague and me by now.

What is new, though, is that new ceilings are being installed on almost every floor. During the construction of this building, the ceilings were insulated against cold and sound with reeds. Of course, that’s not fire-safe at all by today’s standards. So that needed to change quickly.

All the old ceilings have been removed and are being reinforced with iron pins where necessary. A full iron framework is then hung from these, so that all the cabling can be neatly concealed. After that, everything is finished off with fire-retardant panelling. Right now, many of the ceilings are still a lovely pink, which of course I, as a marketing girl, find quite fun. Unfortunately for me, this will soon be finished off, and all the apartments are now really starting to take shape.

Thanks to the various visits we’ve made so far, I’ve secretly already found my favorite apartment. This room has beautiful large windows on two sides, with a stunning view over the Beethovenstraat.

We’re a bit pressed for time, so unfortunately there’s no room for too much daydreaming. The site supervisor takes us past the last floor before we end up back downstairs in our future restaurant.

We’re given a few last details about what’s coming up in the near future. With the summer holidays and the construction industry’s collective leave approaching, we unfortunately won’t be able to visit as often for a while. But that just means the difference will be all the more striking on our next visit. We hope you enjoyed this blog and vlog once again. Until next time!
