It is already time for our fifth visit to our newest location: Cityden Oud-Zuid.
This visit was slightly different from the previous ones. Normally, we enter the building together with the construction supervisor after working hours to see all the changes that have taken place. This time, we had the unique opportunity to visit the construction site during a working day. Fully prepared and protected with a construction helmet and steel-toe safety shoes, we arrived at the location ready to see the latest progress.
The construction site creates a beautiful contrast with the elegant buildings surrounding the property and the lively atmosphere of Beethovenstraat. While life continues outside in the city, inside, the team is working hard on the future of Cityden Oud-Zuid.
Already upon arrival, it was immediately clear how much had changed since our previous visit. On this rainy morning, the construction teams were busy removing the scaffolding from the front and side of the building. Over the past period, this scaffolding had hidden a large part of the beautiful structure and appearance of the property, but slowly the original character of the building is becoming visible again.
We continue inside and make our way to the upper floors via the staircase at the back of the building. Here, it becomes truly clear how much progress has been made. The apartments are starting to take shape more and more. All the walls are now in place, the air conditioning systems have been installed, and all electrical cables have been pulled through. The spaces are almost ready for the next major step: plastering the walls.
Together with the construction supervisor, we walk through the building room by room. He explains exactly where the bathrooms, kitchens, and other facilities will be located in each space. It is incredibly exciting to already get a first impression of what the future apartments will look like and how these spaces will eventually be used by our guests.
Afterwards, we slowly make our way down to the lower floors. Here, we see a large team of construction workers working hard. They are busy installing pipes, adding electrical points, and continuing the finishing work on the walls. On the floor, we can see different markings made with an orange spray can. These lines show exactly where the toilets, showers, and sinks will be placed. It may seem like a small detail, but these markings make the future layout of the apartments much more visible.
From this moment onwards, the renovation is really moving forward quickly. Even though the summer holiday period has started, it is anything but quiet on Beethovenstraat. The construction teams will continue working throughout the summer to keep making major steps towards the opening.
Up to the third floor, we can already see huge changes. Since the renovation work is progressing from the top floors downwards, there is currently not much added value in exploring the lower floors in detail. Of course, we also want to disturb the construction teams as little as possible while they are carrying out their important work, especially with our cameras around.
We therefore make our way back down to the ground floor and take some time to reflect on our visit together with the construction supervisor. While the final pieces of scaffolding are being removed next to us, we once again realise how much has changed in such a short period of time.
The transformation of Cityden Oud-Zuid is becoming more visible and tangible every day. Every time we step inside, we discover new developments and get a clearer picture of the final result. This makes us incredibly excited to continue sharing this journey with you.
Thank you for reading, and see you very soon for the next update!
